Role of Colchicine Treatment in TRAPS: Real-Life Data from the AIDA Network

On the basis of preliminary data from eleven centres taking part in the AIDA network, we have evaluated "on the ground" the role of colchicine in TRAPS. In particular, based on retrospective data from 24 patients, we have found that colchicine may induce a complete control of clinical and laboratory TRAPS manifestations in about 12% of cases. Although based on a limited number of patients, our results suggest that colchicines effectiveness does not depend on the age at disease onset, the dosage employed, and does not correlate with response to other treatment approaches. These data will be confirmed on a much larger number of patients in the future. However, the results of this study currently suggest trying this therapeutic approach in TRAPS patients with a low disease activity and reduced risk for developing long-term complications.
