New Publication: AIDA Network Data on Tocilizumab in Pediatric Non-Infectious Uveitis
We are pleased to announce the publication of a new scientific article based on data from the AIDA Network Uveitis Registry and AIDA Network Scleritis Registry. The study investigates the effectiveness of Tocilizumab (TCZ), an IL-6 inhibitor, in treating pediatric non-infectious uveitis (NIU), a vision-threatening condition in children.

This international, multicenter retrospective analysis included 15 pediatric patients who received TCZ after other treatments failed. The results showed a significant threefold reduction in ocular relapses and a meaningful glucocorticoid-sparing effect, which is crucial in minimizing steroid-related side effects in young patients. Drug retention was high, with an estimated 62% of patients remaining on TCZ after three years.
Importantly, no worsening in visual acuity was observed, and macular edema or retinal vasculitis resolved in all affected eyes. These findings highlight the potential role of IL-6 inhibition in managing severe, refractory cases of pediatric NIU, especially in patients with systemic involvement and frequent relapses.
This study reinforces the importance of collaborative research through the AIDA Network and underlines the need for larger, prospective studies to further explore IL-6–targeted therapies in this vulnerable population.
