New AIDA Network Study on Macular Edema in Uveitis
A new article has been published in Frontiers in Medicine, titled: “Predictors of uveitic macular edema and functional prognostic outcomes: real-life data from the International AIDA Network Uveitis Registry.”

The study analyzed data from over 1,100 patients with non-infectious uveitis (NIU) in the AIDA Uveitis Registry.
Macular edema (ME), a leading cause of visual loss in uveitis, was found in 13% of patients. The main predictors of ME were - :
- Non-anterior uveitis (posterior segment involvement)
- Retinal vasculitis
- Other ocular complications
Conversely, Behçet’s disease-related uveitis showed a lower risk of ME. Demographic factors and HLA status had no significant impact.
Patients with ME had worse visual outcomes, underlining the importance of early detection and close monitoring of high-risk groups.
These results provide real-world evidence to improve the management and prognosis of patients with uveitis.
