New AIDA Network Study Identifies Risk Factors for Kidney Complications in FMF

The study analyzes long-term renal complications in nearly 600 patients with Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF), using data from the International AIDA Network Registry for monogenic autoinflammatory diseases.
The research identifies key predictors—independent of ethnicity or geographic location—linked to the development of proteinuria, amyloidosis, and kidney failure in FMF. Factors such as late diagnosis, prolonged disease duration, high inflammatory markers even outside flares, and specific genetic mutations (notably homozygous M694V) were found to significantly increase the risk of kidney involvement.
These findings mark an important step in understanding how to better monitor and manage FMF patients at higher risk for renal complications, offering a path toward earlier intervention and improved outcomes.
